WGM350 software slow to start on XP

Hi my WGM350 programming software dated Oct 1997 takes about 5-10 minutes to start. when it does, it also complains of failure to talk to the serial port com1. I've run it on two other XP pc's and have not seen the com error as described, buthave experienced it taking 5-10 minutes to start the application. Any suggestions why it should take so long to start. I have tried using Win95 compatibility mode and tried different colour and resolution compatibility settings.

There are two ways.
1. In shortcut for wgm350 include tick
"run in a separate memory area". Run program with the shotcut twice.
2. Modify as outlined in "www.agh-technik.bravehost.com/motofunk.html".
One of additional properties is quick start on XP.
