What is the major difference with these two radios? Or is it just the price on the website?

The GP68 for $299. The Jt1000 for over $900.

I am bias because i love my JT1000.I have have some other radios but the JT is the best!I also like the MTSX accessories better than the RADIUS stuff(it last longer in my opinion).I will not argue about the price, the JT got a price increase because moto wants people to quit buying the mtsx radios and force you to buy the new HT junk!!!(i have an HT1250)You don't have to have a programming key for the GP68.I have read lots of post about the GP68 that people have problems getting them repaired if you have to.I just wanted to put my 2cents in.

- What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT
Jack: At one time I owned both VHF and UHF GP68's, BOTH of which carried FCC ID numbers. Now, whether or not that means they were type accepted I don't know, but perhaps it means that, in the beginning at least, Motorola had visions of selling the radios in the USA. The new GP68's you see for sale today do not carry an FCC ID number. I always thought that the GP68 was a good unit, both electronically and physically, and the only reasons I got rid of mine was so I could go to Sabers and have alpha readouts on the radios, as well as more channels.

Thank you Will! & the others who replied! I have heard stories that the GP68 does not perform well in the ham band? 70 cm...any comments will be appreciated. Since I can't make up my mind, on buying the GP68 or JT1000, The JT I had in my hand the other day & it looked like a good solid radio! thanks again..Ed
So the quality of the GP68's today is what? cheap plastic? (from reading the above posts?)
