'Hi,
I can afford the $1500+ for a XTVA so I was considering a very basic setup using my XTS3k with a TPL PA, speaker mic, and adapter to an external antenna for mobile in my car. any reason this would not work? My main question is: is it safe to hook the XTS to the TPL amp's "RF in" via a sma-bnc adapter and some coax? Just dont want to cook my radio...
Thanks,
Tom

You should be fine with that, the only thing you would be missing from the XTVA are battery charging and an external speaker for the noisy environment of a vehicle.

In addition to that, you could use a speaker mic with a earphone jack, plug a amplified Motorola speaker into the earphone jack, and, have 8 watts of audio, as well as a mic, so as not to disturb any of the radio connections.
FWIW, I just sold 2 complete XTVA's with display mics, RF adapters etc., for $650 a unit, they ae out there, sometimes it is a waiting game though.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
