Guys,
Having major problems running Spectra Railroad Software. I have been trying to run it on the program "Dosbox" but even that has come up short. The "Dosbox" program starts to read the radio but then goes to "Bus timeout." I know this because program comes up on the screen of the Cleancab Radio. Anyone familiar with the "Dosbox" program and exactly how the serial1= line should go? Any help would help.

Spectra Railroad software, RSS, MUST be run on DOS only.
The RSS will NOT run in a so-called DOS BOX..
Also the RR RSS requires a slower DOS ONLY computer, 386 20 mhz is what is recomended in the RSS help.

If you want to find one locally I would post a want add on your local Craigs List. Look for something like an old T1900 (assuming you want a laptop) or something. Personally I would try to stick with an IBM, or Toshiba for a laptop. Another local place would be Good Will, or some other kind of thrift store.RADIO43 wrote:Will,

If you don't mind waiting for one to be shipped, look here or on Ebay. Be warned the shipping charges will be more than the computer most likely.
I have also had luck with the old Syntor X9000 RSS on a 400MHz PII machine using Moslo to slow down the computer. It works just fine for me with no syntax errors.

You may also want to check local computer shops, if there are any that are more than five years old or so. They'll likely give you one if they have a large pile of them laying around gathering dust.

I have an old Zenith laptop that will work for that application.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
