Hello:
Just read the posting below that mentions rail roads going to 6.26 splits.
Is this also true for the 450 to 470 mhz band ?
I know we need to eventualy go to 12.5 narrow band in 2011 or 2013 as i recall.
Im asking because i was thinking about getting a few M1225 mobiles and they only do the 12.5 split and not a 6.25 split.
Do i need to rethink my radios capabilities or am i safe in assuming at the moment that the 12.5 M1225 will still meet any known future FCC requiements per the narrow band ruling as we know at the moment ?
Thank you.

UHF Business band to 6.25 ???

Re: UHF Business band to 6.25 ???
One thing to consider is you're talking about a radio that would cost $200 at the most, so you will likely get several years of use before any deadlines finally get here.
What are you using the radios for? It might not effect you for awhile.

Re: UHF Business band to 6.25 ???
Hello :
The radios at the moment are used for business band.
I realize that they are cheaper and i could use them for awhile at 12.5 narrow band.
But if i update the repeater to 12.5 narrow band and the FCC later on says 6.25 khz then i possibly wasted some time and money.
What im wondering is did they start anything about 6.25 khz splits for the 460 mhz area on business band and if so did they impliment a date of compliance for the 6.25 khz.
Or are they just bumping there gums about it for the moment?
Thank you.

Re: UHF Business band to 6.25 ???
The FCC has not mandated that business band move to 6.25KHz. The FCC has acknowledged that the technology is insufficient to support such a transition.

Hello:
Thank you for saying that.
I was hoping i wasnt wasting my time and money for the moment .
I thought i had read the very same statement you just posted and that makes me feel much better about it.
Thank you.

Correct, but add "at the moment." On the business side, Motorola is pushing MotoTRBO as "6.25 KHz equivalent" (two TDMA digital channels on 12.5 KHz physical channel), in large part because having trouble achieving reliable 6.25 KHz hardware performance.escomm wrote:The FCC has not mandated that business band move to 6.25KHz. The FCC will not be able to force anyone to go to TDMA, since it physically uses the same spectrum as a 12.5KHz channel, even if only one timeslot is being used.RKG wrote:Correct, but add "at the moment." Whether the technology for 6.25KHz spacing ever matures to the point of deployment is debatable. I doubt that it will happen any time soon. The technology just isn't there, it doesn't work up to par with 12.5KHz spacing. Even if it does there will be large issues, as just about every two-way user in the US would have to upgrade.
Just like the P1225 push...
MSS sales people sold the P1225 as a unit "mandated" by the FCC....etc...etc...
Forget about ANY mandates coming from the FCC about you throwing away your 12.5kc split radios. Still going strong here with the 25kc stuff.
