HT1250 Battery Problem
Recently, I came across a problem with my VHF HT1250. I was using it on an ambulance call and while I was just walking around, the radio would restart itself. I talked to another member of the squad to see if he had experienced this problem before and he said he had after he accidentally dropped the radio. We think it could have something to do with the battery because it is a little loose and can be moved back and forward a little. The radio only does this when being moved around a lot and not when sitting still or in the charger. Does anyone know of a fix to this issue?
Re: HT1250 Battery Problem
This has been a very common problem with a lot of different handhelds. Probably the worst of the group has been the GP300/P110/LTS2000 portables. A cheap mans temporary fix has always been a piece of folded up paper between the battery and the radio. This helps for a while, but is not a permanant fix. If they are used for public saftey it would be best to send them off to have them repaired.

Re: HT1250 Battery Problem
This has been known as a "battery containment" issue. Check and see what color the gasket is that surround the battery contacts. (on the radio) If it is any color other than blue, send it to your local Motorola dealer and have it done.

Re: HT1250 Battery Problem
What is the difference between the orange gasket and the blue? Also, is this covered under any kind of replacement warranty or something like that? If it comes down to it, would someone with sufficient knowledge be able to replace the gasket without sending it to a dealer? We don't really have a 'local' dealer that we can just take the radios to.
Re: HT1250 Battery Problem
First, I'm assuming that you've cleaned both the battery contacts where they mate with the 'fingers' on the radio connector and the fingers as well with isopropyl alcohol and/or deoxit.
The containment kit consisted of the abovementioned blue gasket and a capacitor. The difference between the blue and orange/black gaskets is the blue ones have silicone rubber 'fingers' molded into the gasket, so they damp vibrations caused by the battery moving slightly on the housing of the radio as well as providing some additional support behind the contact fingers. If you do a search here for 'containment kit' you'll find all the information including Motorola part numbers.
