Quantar 2 meter ?

I have got a VHF Quantar with hi band receiver and transmitter- When I program it to my freq's the rx does not lock up- 144 FYI -- I am sure this is no surprise-- is there a mod to get it down there -- or do I need the lo band receiver? Where can I find one? or could I use a separate receiver and hook it to the wireline board?--Will that work?
