i have not seen a radio marked mx800 before, but i might assume it is a version of the mx360-t, wich was motorolas very first portable, i had a MX360-t for a while, it had a logic controller and 5 crystal elements, yeah a crystalled trunking radio,(i would love to have one again as a paperweight of motorolas first trunking portable technology) possibly the MX800 came out just before the stx did, and in keeping with the MX name they called it a MX800, i wonder if it too has crystals? i do know the STX radio didnot, it was fully programable, i think the first stx radios rolled of the assembly line in the latter of 1986, my MX360-t was made in 1984

Nope. Wrong. An MX800 is a European variant of the STX. The bandsplit is slightly different (international model) but otherwise it's essentially the same radio. I don't know if standard STX software will work with one or not, but if you swap out the controller for an STX controller, it's sure to work.
