XTVA & HHCH Problem NEED HELP!

Post by GPDMAJOR »

After spending three hours with the installer, local radio shop and Motorola Tech support; I decided to come to the forum for help. Here's my problem:

We are installing XTVAs in 2003 Impalas with the HHCH. After inserting the XTS5000 we get sound through the external speaker and the lights indicated that the unit is charging, but I get no control or display on the HHCH. The power indicator light is on the HHCH and you can see the LCD display is trying to display but just flashes on off with no recognizable characters. The display is still showing on the XTS as it would be out of the XTVA.

We have it connected to the switch to power on only with the switch on. I have noticed in the past when I had my XTL5000 w W3 head that when I turned the car off that the radio would still stay on and gradually "use up all the power" until it went out. I noticed in getting out of the car tonight that the if the XTS was on and I cut the car off that the charging indicator would stay on.

We have tried this with different XTS and the other two XTVA and other two HHCH and they all are the same.

Any help or leads you can provide is greatly appreciated. I don't want to be stuck with a high price car charger.

The XTVA holder unit has a yellow wire which is for ignition and the red wire goes to +12V hot all the time. If you have an amplifier(TPL PA6,PA3) inline that per the instructions should be +12V hot also. If you leave a portable in the holder unit it will continue to charge the battery even with the vehicle key off since the holder unit has +12V. I never leave a portable in the holder unit over night or for long periods of time. With no portable in the holder unit and the key off there should be vertually no current draw. I can not comment on the HHCH problem as I have never experienced that problem but it sounds like no comm between the HHCH and holder.

I figured out the problem......Motorola sent me the wrong HHCH. Although the box stated it was the PLN7737B the part inside was the HHCH for the O3 XTL5000. The end plugs are totally different although the O3 did fit in the adapter accessory plug. Anyway the bad ones are being shipped back and hopefully the replacements will be correct.

I'd like to see a pic of what you were sent and the connectors on it.
