JT1000 problem

I have programmed this radio several times by rss and front panel with no problems or issues. I tried accessing the menu from the front panel and nothing, as if the radio did not know the keypad was there. All side buttons and the top button worked fine, an attached speaker mike worked as well. I tried reloading the codeplug from rss and got a radio missing/not cut on/low battery message. I put a charged battery on, no go. I have a VHF JT1000 and swapped the front panel to rule out bad flex, but it had the same problem. Any ideas?

Are you using a programming key? Or did you or someone put a Diode so you don't need the key? If you had no problems or issues in the past...did you change your pc? check all connections to the RIB? Did you save the original codeplug? http://www.batlabs.com/visar.html
make sure the battery has a full charge, also the 1 in the RIB..
could be a battery or codeplug issue

Thanks for the reply, while I had the computer booted up, I tried an HT1000 and it read it fine. I swapped batteries also with no luck. I bought it from a member and don't know if it had a diode installed or not, but thats maybe the case. Would a blown diode cause the computer to not read the radio and cause the keyboard to not light up when buttons are pushed? I don't use this radio often, but I do seem to remember putting this in a basic mtva and it acting funny. In fact as it is now, the speaker output from the radio does not come through the mtva speaker.

if it had a diode installed, you would be able to program the radio without the key! You tried reading the codeplug and got nothing. Any errors? any low tone sounds? Self-Test Work?
Try cleaning all the contacts on the side of the radio with a pencel eraser. Pull the speaker mic off and leave it off till you can read/write to the radio. Don't put it in the mtva. I'm trying to narrow this down to so far a codeplug issue or something in the radio..Try to read the radio again. The keypad should light when you push a button. Last can you find the Original codeplug to load? (not easy to do this while I'm at work)

PS: the concentric switch is keyboard lock, and the man down button is DTMF toggle, and neither can be reassigned.
