Smartnet vs Smartzone Question

If a radio (XTS2500) has a flashcode that indicates it is an H-38 Smartzone radio, what is needed to make it work with an H-37 Smartnet 800 mHz system or is it even possible?

I am trying to purchase radios to use on an 800MHz Smartnet system. We currently use MTS2000, XTS2500 and XTS5000 radios. I would rather use the XTS due to a digital upgrade coming in a year or 2 although to save money a MTS2000 would be okay. The model number for the MTS2000 I need is H01UCD6PW1BN. What model numbers in the XTS series should I be shopping for?

Any information someone knowledgable can provide will be helpful. I have access to full programming services through our radio dealer so minor changes are not an issue. I am just trying to keep from making a mistake......

H38 automatically includes H37 and all other options below it. So a Smartzone XTS will program and work just fine on a SmartNet system (as well as conventional channels).

I think you're wise to look at the XTS vs. MTS radios since a digital upgrade is this close for you. The MTS won't make the conversion, so you'll again be looking for more replacement radios within a year or two. The XTS, as long as they are already flashed for digital, will transition just fine.

The XTS may cost a bit more now, but you'll still have to spend that same money on top of the MTS purchase when you upgrade.

My department has a mix of MTS2000, XTS2500 M1 & M1.5, and XTS5000 radios.

For day to day use the MTS2000 is still my favorite. As for the digital capable radios, I prefer the XTS2500 to the XTS5000. The 5000 with a decent battery is a good bit heavier on the ol' belt after 8 hours.
