Need help with GR500 16 pin accessory connector

Post by ChrisNYC »

I'm in the process of interfacing a GR500 / R1225 repeater to a hard line Telex intercom system using the 16 pin connector. The intercom uses balanced audio both ways and has a relay closure to key the radio. I wont be needing the COR. I have most of it figured out, but am confused as to which audio connections to use. Should I use the discriminator output (pin 11) to feed the intercom and pin 5 to feed the repeater? Is pin 5 a line level input or should I concentrate on using the mic input (pin 2) instead? I already am set up to convert line level to mic level and balanced to unbalanced as needed. I just need to know the best pis to use. Thanks! Chris

Pin 5 is a flat tx audio input, without the filtering circuitry present in the pin 2 mic input. It's generally used for low frequency paging tones, or digital signals such as pocsag paging. You'll probably get the best results using pin 2 in your application. Pin 11 may or may not be sufficient for your purposes, depending on the range of audio adjustment available with your equipment. The other option is to use one of the external speaker pins...1 or 16, with a capacitor inline to block the DC voltage present on the pin. Your audio level is obviously dependant on the volume control with that set-up.
