MTS/MCS 2000 MDC1200 vs. all other MDC1200 radios
Hello all,
I own several Maxtracs, HT1000's, an HT1250, an MTS and an MCS. I noticed that the MDC burst that the MTS and MCS generates sounds different from what all the other radios generate. It's especially noticable when DOS is muted on the receiving radio. You're able to hear that the MDC burst coming from the MCS/MTS sounds a bit longer. Does anyone else notice this? Why is this, and is there a way to make it sound just like the rest of the radios? I also noticed that on the MTS2000's, you're able to cancel your own MDC transmit. (IE, on PRE ID, I can just let go of the PTT button before the ID transmits, and on POST ID, you can just shut off the radio. Both successfully cancel the ID on the radio however, on any other radio, this wont work. Once you press the PTT on a Maxtrac, HT1000, HT1250, etc, the MDC will come up whether or not you hold down the PTT button or shut off the radio.
Why did Motorola have a change of heart when doing the MTS2000's and MCS2000's?
Thanks!

i think your radio is set to both PRE & POST ids then, all you are doing is killing the radio before the POST one gets out, the PRE one makes it out just fine. The PRE id is the leading MDC burst prior to TX audio, and the POST is after you releaese the PTT and you are done talking.

PRE and POST is difinately not it... I very fimiliar with the programming... all of my radios, (except the portables) are set for POST ID. Maybe what I'll do is set up some recordings when I get around to it later on today so everyone knows what I'm talking about...
Thanks for the reply!!

That's just the way they were engineered, no reason or rhyme. On all the XTS5000s I've had, you could also cut off Pre ID by letting go of the PTT (generally on systems with a pre-time of 1000ms or more, even with bit sync)
Obviously you can shut the radio off and it will not transmit the ID - because it is off!
On Astro and Astro25 family radios, the Post MDC ID is still transmitted, even if you turn the radio off before hand - this is because these radios use a "Soft" power off, and the radio knows that it has to TX that ID before the radio is turned off. Of course, you could physically take off the battery. But why would you want to cancel Post ID in the first place? Just turn it off in CPS if you don't want it on.

Re: MTS/MCS 2000 MDC1200 vs. all other MDC1200 radios
My XTS5K set up on pre-ID doesn't transmit the id if I just tap the PTT. I've never tried turning it off before the post ID gets out, but I'd guess it would work. I guess.
And yes, the ID's on the MTS/MCS series take longer to get out. It's especially noticeable on pre id's. You can alter the pretime for pre ID's to make it get out faster, but then you risk not making the repeater. Other than that, there's not much you can really do AFAIK.

All this to just prevent your ID from being transmitted? Ok.
I just can't think of a reason i would need to short tap the PTT and not transmit my ID, or turn the radio off during TX (unless it physically failed and would not stop any other way.)
I would be interested in hearing the differences in the MDC IDs, as i don't have access to any of the HTs you mentioned with MDC turned on...

find someone who can host them, and allow you to link to those files on their server.

Just scroll down alittle bit to where you should see the Play button right below the Ad Banner.
It is right about the "Download" button.
