1225 repeater TX tone?

I have 2 m-1225's tied together as a repeater. Has been working fine. Very intermittent use (at a race track). Was just out there to test a couple of portables and when i key up a portable repeater transmits fine, when the portable un keys i hear a tone being transmitted. Same tone and length of tone every time. Is this some sort of error indication? Was sitting for last 2 and a half months, but in weather proof enclosure. Any ideas or where to get error tone info? Yes the TX radio sends the PL tone or DPL code during the delay.

Pin 8's are programmed to low on receive. And units are tied together with a RA-1 repeater maker. I.E. plug and play. One way system, one unit RX only, other unit TX only. Good grounding. System worked fine for our first two events of the year, has sat for last month and a half. Now it keys up, passes audio just fine, but when portable unkeys the TX starts emitting tone for approx 20 seconds. Same tone, same timing. ??? error tone? Thanks for the replies.

Still need to find out what this is. It's not a PL tone, It's a lot higher freq. And it's very loud. And it starts up after the carrier in drops out, so it's something the TX radio is doing all by it self.

I'm no expert on the setup you have there but I'd break up the problem into 2 stages. One remove the Rx from the repeater pair and just do a key up of the transmitter. If you get a tone then your problem lies there. However if your receiver is sending out information to the transmitter after keyup the transmitter will of course send out whatever it's being told to.

As a quick suggestion just reverse the setup and see if it goes away. That's something you could do if you needed to make this work quickly till you had some time to completely troubleshoot the problem.

If you find that the problem is persistent try changing frequencies or see if there is some form of interference on or close to your channel. You may have to change the gating of the radio (if that's possible with a M1225) to and/or instead of std/std that should cause your receiver to quiet sooner.

This does sound like a bit of a difficult troubleshoot without actually being there, hopefully someone here has had a similar problem in the past.
