Cloning MLM Firmware? Was:Spectra MLM ver: Min for zones?

Post by Cowboy »

The following terms don't behave nicely with the search application:
spectra
MLM
zones

Hence the reason I was only able to do basic search via Google...

Anywho...

I've yet to locate a reasonable list of Spectra MLM version vs available features...

I have an A5 VHF with a 6.1+ version MLM that clearly does zones...

However...

The box that arrived today is an A9 UHF with a 5.1~ish version MLM and no clear indication on the existing control head of zone usage.

There in lies my question(s):

What is the minimum MLM version to support zones or,

Is it merely a matter of bit banging the moflag to allow the option, i.e. Moflag 7 Bit 4

Thanks in advance for an a simple answer to what is more than likely an overasked question...

Updated title - searching for info now on firmware cloning as alluded by the 2002-2003 Natedog thread on moflags

From what it says...
Zone Operation 6.00 or later and a Zone capable code plug.

Awesome, that was what I was looking for :)

So with moflag cracking aside...

The actual limitation on Zone Operation is the hardware side of the MLM, not necessarily whether or not the feature is enabled?

Thanks!

I finally was able to locate Natedogs thread on Moflags (which oddly enough is a term search allows)... While it appears you can allow it by modifying the moflag regardless of vintage of MLM (whether it be an original 1.0 or a 6.16), and able to program zones and specify a ZONE UP/DWN button on the control head, much like the ability to scan with a version 1.0 MLM, if the firmware isn't up to at least 6.06 (per the thread circa 2003), the radio won't do anything for zones.

There was quite a bit of mention as to cloning firmware between MLMs... I do have a 6.16 MLM in my VHF radio - What is the procedure to clone firmware versions between MLMs?
