What radios do you own?: Too many

SM 50 versus MAXTRAC.

Post by PETNRDX »

I have a pair of SM50 25 UHF radios that I may use RICK style as a portable temp repeater.
I have used Maxtracs/Radius/GM300's, CDM, and M1225's as in this fashion before.
But not SM50's.
Anybody have experience with them, are they any better (or worse) than the Maxtrac?

The heatsinking isn't as good, so make sure the power is turned well down from maximum. They are more prone to interference due to the wide-open front end in the RX. I don't believe the SM50 pins are programmable, so if Pin 8 doesn't give a COR by default, you'll have to source one inside the radio somewhere. The SM120 has programmable pins.
