I have a couple of CDM1250s with CheckSum errors.
I tried to locate a copy of the last known codeplug, but could not
find one. I tried writing another codeplug into the radio.
I read something recently about clearing an EEPROM CS error on HT1250
portables and switching radios in the firmware upgrade process.
I decided to try the firmware upgrade procedure. I downloaded the
R05.07.02 firmware from MOL. Connected the RKN4081 ribless cable and
flashing adapter. Started the flash upgrade program process with a
good radio. Switched programming cable to the mic jack of the CS
radio, but it requires a power off and on from front button to enter
bootstrap mode. Once I switch the flashing adapter, the CS radio will
not turn off. It just locks up. On the portables, you just remove the
battery, but on mobiles it is different. I tried removing power cord
and reapplying but that didn't work. I tried just upgrading the firmware
of the CS radio, but I get an error that the connected radio has a
hardware problem and refer to manual. Has anyone had any success with
this procedure on CDMs or other Waris series mobiles? OR has another
suggestion. I also read something about Waris lab tool? What is this?
Will this help me?

Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
try upugrading the firmware from the rear connector. i've always had the best luck getting those back from that error by keep trying to write a good codeplug into the radio and 99% of the time it works. you may get it to work on the next try or it may take two days but it usually works.

Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
Here there are some program tips for Waris platform radios.
1. You mast be sure trere is no version conflict in chain "firmware-
codeplug-CPS" for your radio. So main task is get good codeplug.
You may find Waris_5T or Waris_MPT Upgrade Tool. There are
"Radio info" function there, it give you info about radio codeplug
even if CPS don't read one.
2. The simplest thing you can try is PowerOnProgram.
Turn off radio. Connect radio to PC and power source. Run CPS and load good codeplug. Set write radio procedure go (Ctrl-W + Ok) and press power on button on radio.Wait until end. May be you get luck.
3. Clone dump from SEEPROM IC 25128 (93128) with good codeplug
to IC from your radio. You will lose serial number as it will be cloned as well. You also will lose tuning softpot parametres, but basically they are
very similar.
This method is "2 in 1" , because you will check IC itself, may be one
is bad. By the way, "CS ERROR" may be the first signal that FlashROM IC is going dead.
4. For setting radio in bootstrap mode after removing power cord
and reapplying it you must press power on button once.
5. WarisLabTool based on Waris_5T or Waris_MPT UpgradeTool and
don't work correctly with Waris_MDC radios for me.

Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
I would strongly advise against doing anything to a Waris radio that involves losing tuning data. The radios cannot be tuned without a $400 test box, service monitor and voltmeter.
Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
Thanks for all the info. Radios are now both working. Codeplug tool did the trick.
I agree with above poster. Modifications that change soft pot/tuning data should NOT be done unless you have proper equipment to tune the radios afterwards.
Fortunately I have the necessary knowledge and equipment.
Thanks again for all the help. I have sent numerous radios out to Motorola depot in the past. Now all I have to do is get other people to stop F%@king with the radios. Easier said than done.

Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
Just open tuner, and read the tuning values and save them. After you get done screwing with the radio, reload the original tuning values. Of course this only works if the radio is working properly in the first place.
Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
I'lll agree with trying to save the original tuning values as those can be saved as a seperate codeplug file in global tuner. However, unless you are worried about your Dev (and some people are) it's not fully necessary to use that expensive tuning box (however we do have one here for the mototurbo repeaters). Also tuning the Dev back up can be done without the box just not nearly as quick or easy. I will say however I'm still a bit lost on that guys post on the things to do for a CS EEprom error. I'd go with ELA's post and keep trying to program and flash from the rear port, the thought on that is that it's already mess up, how much worse can it get? And since we're on the topic of the rear programmer for the CDM's does anyone have the part number to that particular programming cable?
Re: CDM1250 EEPROM CS ERROR
AARKN4083A rear programming/service cable.
