HELP! SABER I Issues

Post by kb1nbn »

Hello All,

I just got a Motorola Saber I VHF... I was in the process of programming it when my computer started doing some funny things... right in the middle of programming, it gave me an error that had something to do with I/O error, and that i needed to check my connection to the computer etc... well next thing i know, the radio is corrupt and i cant read or write to the radio, it also wont transmit on the frequencys it was programmed to before... And no, i made the mistake of not backing up the codeplug/personality...

Also be sure that you're running DOS 6.22 or equivalent and NOT the DOS that
runs under the Windows platforms. Common problem is that you can read a
Saber with the Windows DOS but you will not be able to write to the radio.

And the basics:
1. Motorola RIB if possible with fresh battery.
2. Clean contacts on the back of the radio.
3. DOS 6.22 with computer booted in DOS mode
4. Slow computer speed; 386 is ideal, 486 usually okay, too.
Faster processors make it a crap shoot as to whether or
not the system will dump your program.

Let's start by having you answer these questions.

1) What is the model # of the radio?

2) What frequencies (just a couple for an example) are you trying to program?

3) What is the bandsplit of your radio?

4) DOS version and RSS version?

5) Computer processor speed?

6) OEM or aftermarket RIB and cables?

The more information that you can supply us with, the more we can help you get the problem resolved properly.
