Problem reading radios once XP SP 3 installed????

Post by beemare »

Since XP SP3 has been installed on my home PC, I haven't been able to read or write to any radios with CPS IF they are used with a RIB.

I don't have any problems reading any of my ASTRO25 stuff with ribless cables, just the ones that use a RIB and cables. (XTS3000, MCS2000, CDM1250, etc.)

I have done everything I can think of, different cables, checked COM port settings and tried 3 different radios.

Any ideas??

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

Never had any problems with XP Pro SP3 on three different machines, an IBM T30 P4 1.8GHz, a Dell P4 2.2GHz Dimension desktop and an old Toshiba Portege 7020CT. All of them run both MTS2000 CPS 2.02 and XTS3000 5.02 just fine using RIB and cable.

Remember? If you had CPS installed on your computer when you updated to XP SP3, you were warned/advised in the SP3 pre-installation notes that certain programs and hardware using a serial port might become corrupted or non functional. You need to uninstall then re-install Motorola CPS to insure total functionality and safeguard against bricking a radio.

I doesn't happen to everyones SP3 XP computer, but it does happen, and I'm living proof!

I believe I am having this problem also but never realized this was the reason until now. I had some problems reading an M1225 and a CDM with the RIB box and had no luck reading anything with Dos box that previously worked.

I will do some investigating and report back.

Thanks guys.

I'll try your suggestions and see what happens. (I'm glad I'm not the only one this has happened to!)

Thanks
