MT-1000 w/ DTMF help

Post by AndrewFF211 »

I have recently acquired a MT-1000 with the DTMF keypad (type NTN5040). The radio TX's and RX's perfectly fine. The radio beeps when it starts up. Now, I will go into the RSS and set all the DTMF options, but when it comes time to program, it gets tricky. I will hit F8 to program. It will send the codeplug to the radio completely. Then after the codeplug transfer is complete, it will tell me that the radio does not support DTMF functions. Here is where it gets even weirder. Despite the RSS telling me that the radio isn't a DTMF radio, if I press the PTT and press the buttons, I can hear the DTMF tones! (Note that none of the options that I set, like singletones, stored numbers, and more importantly Auto PTT when dialing, are not saved on the radio.) What could be wrong?

In addition, if someone could tell me the difference between my DTMF board (NTN5040) and the other two types it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is it possible for the radio to dial a DTMF number when I dekey the PTT? If so how would I program that?

Andrew,

Your MT1000 has all the symptoms of one that has had a DTMF front installed and
the radio inside is not fully DTMF capable.

I believe the NTN5040 is just a DTMF encoder with no ANI capability so it is not RSS programmable like the NTN5458 and NTN5459.

If the MT1000 has a programmable front it should beep 3 times at start up. The normal power on beep, a pause and 2 quick beeps to indicate the front cover encoder board is working.

So you are saying that my DTMF pad was installed on a normal MT? Interesting.

Thanks for the help, guys!

I just checked the MT1000 manual and it confirms the 5040 is just a DTMF encoder like was used on
the HT600 but packaged to work with the MT1000. It is not one of the RSS programmable "signaling"
boards that the MT1000 also supports so none of the RSS "F4" signaling options apply.

I've got an NTN4884A DTMF front (short tones and small oval buttons), which is not listed at all in the service manual as a standard or option. MOL calls it just COV FRONT DTMF. I can enter DTMF configurations in RSS, but when writing to the radio, it says the front is not capable of DTMF or digital signalling. Despite the fact that the RSS says it can't, the radio certainly does transmit DTMF. It's gray, not tan or black, so I have to assume it's an MT1000 front, not an HT600 or a P200.
