800MHz Astro Saber I Question

Post by KI4RGV »

I recently purchased an AS1 from eBay. The radio came and there is an issue with the volume control. The only way to hear the audio is to turn the nob one particular location. If it is moved a hair to the right or left - all audio is gone. To top this problem, that one sweet spot it almost at full volume. My buddy took the radio apart and spayed some contact cleaner on it but, it did not work. Any know of a quick fix for this problem?

Also, I have a busted VHF 6CH P110 - Can I pull the the volume control out of this radio and install it into the AS1?

Thanks in advance - looking forward to your reply's!!!

Check to see that "Zero Audio Mute" is not enabled in the programming. It's under Radio-Wide Options. You might also want to roll the Minimum Audio Volume back (or up) to 75 and set the Alert Tone Offset to 0.

If none of those solve the problem, you may be looking at physically replacing the volume knob.. but it's not terribly difficult. I'd check the 800 radio's guts in a known good chassis before going that far, though.
