Motorola RSS different versions on same computer

Post by Jim202 »

I need to ask the question here if you can have different versions of the same RSS installed on the
same computer? Problem is I travel around a great deal and run into radios that are not at the
current version of the RSS. Not wanting to cause any problems by changing an audio setting and
now the radio is at a newer version is my concern.

Can the different versions be put into different directories and run this way or does the installs
cause issues with the different versions?

So far my searching on the batboard site here has not come up with the answer I am looking for.

Not at all. DOS is very forgiving in that regard.

One thing you'll run into is with programs like Astro or MTSX that install .bat files in the root C: directory; installing a newer version will overwrite that .bat file and make it so that when you type "mtsx" or "astrop" at the C: prompt it jumps you to the last version of that software that you installed. Personally, I just delete them out of hand and take the extra 3 seconds to "cd" straight to the program's file folder.

I guess I should have been a little more specific. I am asking about the windows
versions like CPS version of the CDM radio and the Astro 25 mobile and portables.

Oh, haha, yeah that is a whole other can of worms.

I'm not a Waris user, but I know for a fact it won't work with Astro or Astro25 CPS. If you try to install a current version with an older one installed, it will automatically un-install it.

You should be able to have more than one version of pro radio cps (cdm radios) on your computer, I know I've still got a few working older versions on mine that I never uninstalled.

You can install multiple versions of the same CPS package...this much I know from recollection of some past posts. What I don't know is 'how' to do it. This was the closest I found with the broken search engine:

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
