Analog Saber case change for AVA

Post by Mike B »

I have an analog Saber II and III (non-secure models) that have the early cases that don't work in the AVA (Astro Vehicle Adapter). They only work in the older SVA. Is it possible to change the original cases with a newer version of the analog Saber cases that work in the AVA or is this not possible/practical?

Not possible or practical. Read about the differences between an SVA and an AVA over
at www.batlabs.com under Model Specific Information/Saber I II III.

The Astro Saber cases are a different animal from the standard Saber cases.

Tom, thanks for the reply. I wasn't asking about using an Astro case on an analog Saber core.

There were analog Sabers that are not Astro Sabers, that were made after a specific date around 1995 that do work in the AVA. I was asking about substituting newer post 1995 analog Saber cases for my old pre 1995 analog Saber cases. I do not know if the newer analog Saber cases will work with an older analog Saber radio core or not.

I don't have any pictures to show what I'm describing, but the only difference between pre-1994/95 and post- analog and System Sabers in regards to AVA compatibility is that the newer radios have a small hole to the left of the accessory antenna connection. The pin that activates the antenna switch on Astro Sabers drops into that hole. You can just drill one out on an older radio and it'll work fine in an AVA.

Thanks all for the help. If I had just taken the case off, I would have noticed the hole isn't in the case (DUH). I know what the hole looks like because I borrowed an Astro Saber to test the AVA. I'll just have to borrow another Astro and take the hole measurements.
