Preset Zone and Channel

Post by ajpritch »

Has anyone used the following feature "Preset Zone and Channel" The CPS help states that you can set the digits 1 2 and 3 up like your car radio for a zone and channel. I have it enabled but cant get it to work. I have tried it on a XTS 2500, XTS 2500i and a XTS 5000. I thought it might be firmware so I tried it on the XTS 5000 which has the most current firmware and DSP.

Any ideas would be appericated

Current firmware is R12.00.10, and you need at least R12.00.00 for it to work.. What version are you running?

Just select the desired channel, press and hold the 1,2 or 3 key until it beeps once. The channel is now stored..

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

Marc,

I figured it was firmware dependent but on my XTS 5000 its Host/DSP 12.00/12.00. I have tried just holding down the buttons but it never beeps. I checked the keypress times for short and long which are set at 50ms for short and 1000ms for long

Prob a really dumb question, but is your 5K a factory model 3? Just trying to rule out a model 2 radio with model 3 parts on it..

Another thing to try, to make sure the keys are working: Power up the radio, and within 10 seconds, press the lower side button just above the PTT 5-times in a row quickly. After it goes into service mode, press the side purple button once, and then press and release the orange button up top.. Now, press each of the front keys and see if 1,2, and 3 register on the display..

Prob a little overkill, but it helps with eliminating a cause as to why it's not working for you..

Marc,

It is a factory full keypad here is the model number off the tag and that matches what the service menu says
h18uch9pw7an. When I enter the service menu as stated if i press the digits 1 2 and 3 they do change the display to different numbers

I had the same problem with a work XTS5000 a few months ago and it turned out to be a conflict with another menu item which was also using the same keys, 1-3.

I'd bet that you have the same problem and some other menu item is also using the top row of keys, 1-3, and that's taking precedence over the radio preset option.

post a List of what your menu items are and then we can figure out the conflicting menu item.

Mike

I just remembered what my problem was. Check and see if you have DTMF mic enabled on any personality, this can cause the conflict.

Mike,

Here is the list I have in the trunking menu in order
Zone, Mute, Page, Call, Batt, Prog, VIew, Nuis, Phon Clck

Where would I find the DTMF MIC? I dont have one that I know of

I was thinking along the lines of conventional personalities but now that I see you have the problem in trunking then I think it is in either or both the CALL/PAGE and/or the PHONE pull down menus in the individual trunking personalities.

Go to your trunking personalities and look for the CALL/PAGE pull down menu and see if call alert/page operation is set to unlimited, if so then you may need to set this up for list only.

Then in the same trunking personalities go to the PHONE pull down and see if this is also set to unlimited phone interconnect, if so you probably need to set this to list only operation.

One more thing I forgot, if you have conventional channels set up then go to all of your conventional personalities and look for TX OPTIONS and make sure that DTMF mic enable is not checked , even if they are not being used, it can still cause you grief.

I know for a fact that this one causes the problem that your'e experiencing

Mike,

You are correct both the Private call and Phone are set to unlimted since those options are used. I will try changing them to list only to see if that allows me to set the buttons or not

setting them to something other than unlimited will fix it, I tried it on a work radio and I had the same problem which you described.
