DES-XL for GE Equipment
Does anybody have info or know of DES or DES-XL compatible equipment(modules)for the GE line (MA/COMM etc). I have access to a number of MR-K portables. Would like to know if such exists. I know Rockwell had made some stuff for GE that was brand named as Voice-Guard. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: DES-XL for GE Equipment
I believe there is a version of VoiceGuard that is DES. DES-XL is a proprietary algorithm of Moto.
Re: DES-XL for GE Equipment
Early Ge radios, MPA's MPD's, MRK's and some of the later mobiles were available with DES (no DES-XL available in the GE lines).
GE/Ericsson had a proprietary digital voice called AEGIS and the radio could be programmed 3 ways, 1. digital without encryption (called AEGIS DIGITAL) 2. Digital voice with encryption (called AEGIS PRIVATE) or AEGIS CLEAR which was simply regular FM, no digital and no encryption.
Then they also had their proprietary encryption called VGE and the radio could be programmed for VGE clear which is the same as regular FM or VGE private which was FM encrypted.
Later GE's had DES, VGE, AEGIS and another Ericsson/GE proprietary encryption scheme called VGS along with their P25 compatible products which have AES.
If this hasn't totally baffled you then your doing fine.
Talk about incompatible systems, except for the ones that have DES which would talk to Motorola's now I know why the standards committes tried to go with p25 so everyone was on the same track with digital and encryption.
