Does anyone know if there is any problem with permanently shorting the power switch "on" on a spectra? Some heads have a push on-push off type sw and some have a momentary contact type. It is the momentary type I am asking about. I want to use the radio as a remote link and want it to power up on it's own in the event of a power outage.
thanks...
Spectra auto power on?

Re: Spectra auto power on?
Different heads have different solder in zero ohm chip jumpers to bypass the power switch. Do you know the part number of the board inside the head (see the A5 or A7 list):

There are other possibilities for changing jumpers (command boards, interconnect boards, remote mount interface boards, etc.), but correctly jumpering the control head ensures power is being feed correctly to its board and not through an unintended path. If you have a later type enhanced control head you can program the default dim level to save the VF display (I can't remember, but I think blanking the display turns off the filament voltage) since you are probably not looking at a remote display very often. If the RSS allows an Enhanced control head type to be set and programming the enhanced features works, then its an enhanced type head.
The heads with a mechanical pushbutton are very early heads.

If you are using the Spectra in a remote link you probably do not need a control head. The A5 & A7 Spectra will operate without the control head. You will need a jumper added at the fifteen pin connector.
