Converting a Spectra head

Post by racerman1cars »

I just got a Spectra that was setup for an A5 head, what would be involved in puting a A9 head on it? I have the remote cable.

Steve,

You may be able to change the Control type in the RSS. It is under the Radio Wide F1 section.

Hi Will, I am borrowing a programing cable tomorrow and will look in the RSS for control head type. While I got you here Is the poewr switch on a a 5 Spectra repairable? please e mail @ [email protected], probably too long a story for here.

Moving it from A5 to A9, you probably would need to do some bitbanging in the spectra radio to make "soft" changes in the command board. Once you have done that, you can change the control head type to "System 9000" in RSS.

Thats what I was afraid of. Is bitbanging a big deal to do? I might just leave it A 5!

Not really, I have done quite a few times, sober and not so sober. Just follow the steps here,

http://www.k2jsv.com/spectra/

The key is to read and write back to the radio without any changes, otherwise you won't be able to get out of the FL 01/82 loop. that is the most critical step.

There were two basic types, the alternate action mechanical switch and the membrane button.
