MSR2000 PL Question

Post by w2sjw »

Guys,

Is it possible for an MSR2000 to support the simultaneous operation of both a PL and a DPL board? I have seen certain Motorola repeaters that have an either/or setup going, and my amateur club is interested in pursuing this idea if it will work on our VHF MSR2000...

I am new to the MSR2000 world, and someone else out there with more experience will probably have a better answer for you..but I would be inclined to say no, at least not in a standard configuration. There is only one slot available on the backplane for a "PL" card, and getting simultaneous PL/DPL operation would require a SP card with the two options combined. I don't immediately recall anything in the control and audio manual (which I hope you have a copy of.. part # is 68P81061E40-O) about being able to configure the option slots for additional "PL" cards either, but that might be doable.

Either way, the easy thing to do would be to use an aftermarket multi-tone repeater panel. Zetron and CSI make some excellent products, and the interface methodology to the MSR backplane is well-documented.

Also, for future reference, you'd probably want to post repeater-related stuff in the System Infrastructure & Related Equipment subforum.
