VHF portable antennas heliflex? whip? aftermarket?

Post by hobbes »

I need to replace the antennas on a bunch of VHF portables (mostly SP50, P1225, a few HT750) Most of them right now are using the NAD6502AR antenna, "VHF Heliflex Antenna, 150-162 MHz". The radios are used on several frequencies from 158-173MHz.

Can anyone recommend antennas for this application, /\/\ or aftermarket? I've seen antennas similar to the motorola standard heliflex, and I've also seen advertized the tapered whip-style antennas that are available for the Waris portables such as 8504762J02, "VHF Whip Antenna, 155-174 MHz". Any performance differences between the two styles, or any aftermarket brands you would recommend (or warn against!)?

Thanks as always for your help!

The catalog I have shows NAD6502 as 146-174 so you're good there. Stay away from the tapered Waris type, there have been issues with those.
