Route XTS audio to Car Stereo via AUX input jack

Post by Leadenwah »

The audio output from any Motorola handheld radio can be routed to your vehicle's AM/FM/CD player using the AUX input usually found on the faceplate. Newer AM/FM/CDs have an AUX input which is usually a "sub-mini" stereo jack.

In this case an Astro Saber was fitted with its RF adapter which accpets a "sub-mini" plug. A mono to stereo adapter was then fitted to a common patch cord and plugged into the AUX jack on a very inexpensive Pioneer AM/FM/CD unit. It worked like a charm and the added benefit is the ability to adjust sound quality, bass, treble, balance, etc. This is especially nice for the Astro Saber which can develop a hollow reverb quality at higher volume. It was a great improvement and no more unsightly than using an MP-3 player which was the original intent of this option.

Of course, the RF adapters of other model handhelds may require a bit more adaptation, but the idea is the same.
