Swapping spectra MLM boards
I read in the earlier MLM thread someone posted that they had used an MLM from another radio. In the interest of having the information available in the search function, can you bitbang the MLM in the radio that you're upgrading even though you're getting the Fail 999 message on power up? I have a dead (water damaged, fail 01/90 power loop) UHF spectra with a newer MLM board and a working radio with a older MLM board and was hoping to swap in the newer MLM board.

Re: Swapping spectra MLM boards
I have successfully swapped an MLM out of an A3 model and put an MLM in from a dash mount bit banged and been ok!

Re: Swapping spectra MLM boards
I don't want to give you misleading information because there's a lot more to it -BUT- if you use the Change Serial Number feature in SpectraLAB to change the MLM's serial number to match its recipient radio BEFORE you swap it, you should be able to get past FAIL 999 and bit-bang/codeplug clone it into whatever you want. I would recommend starting with a version 6.xx or greater MLM already set up for trunking and Securenet; "useless" Gov't split UHF Spectras are a good source for these.
