Record TX and RX audio from CDM

Post by giardinop »

I am looking for a temporary but reliable solution to record the TX and RX audio from a CDM mobile. The pinout for the rear connector shows pins for both "audio" and "ext speaker". W

Which pins (if the radio is cabable) would give me both sides, the Ext speaker will give only RX right?

I have to connect to our Eventide data recorder for a few months until our repeater relocation project is complete. We normally have a tie line direct to the repeater for recording. That line will be down and I need recording capability.

I hope it is as easy as making up a cable off two pins on the CDM I just donk know what pins output the proper signal.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no rear panel connection that will let you connect to the TX audio on the front
panel input. The rear aux mic connection is isolated from the front panel mic input. This is for a second mic input.

Yes you can connect up to the RX audio from the rear panel. The best place to obtain the RX audio is from the
"Fixed" audio output. If my memory is correct, this is pin 11 on the rear connector. Using this pin, the RX audio
will not change level with changes in the volume control on the front panel.

If your trying to record the combined TX and RX audio, the only way to do that may be with a second radio
set to listen to the first radio TX output. If a repeater is being used, then I would just record the audio from a
receiver set to the repeater output.

Yes, unless you want to build a summing circuit (not too hard, really) you'd need to use two tracks on the Eventide to record both RX (pin 11 as Jim suggests) and the TX audio pin in the mic port...I've used simple RJ-45 junction boxes in-line with the mic to 'breakout' the audio easily. A dedicated logging radio instead of using the base radio is the easiest option, that way everything is on Pin 11.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Thanks for the input. We had a scanner running to capture the data but it has proven pretty unreliable. My hope was to use the temporary CDM setup because it has an antenna on the building and gets clear audio both ways. The scanner has RX trouble for many reasons.

I have and old MaxTrac that I'm thinking about setting up now that I know the CDM won't play nice with me. The Maxtrac can be dedicated for recording and I can use it as a backup too I guess.
