Help! ID,ing a missing part 4 A Mot portable repeater

Post by wmd »

Greetings all,
I purchased a Motorola suitcase repeater some years ago I totally forgot about it it has been sitting in the shed collecting dust  So I decided to finally get this Unit operational for my next project I have never worked on one of these before, any help would be much appreciated and any advice will be well received..

This is a crystal control version not a S Model the crystals have been removed no big deal at this stage of the game what I am concerned about is that a module is missing on the main controller board as I don't have a manual I have no idea what this module is, it is located right next to the DVP hybrid board, PCB location for the missing module is "U50" can anyone please tell me what this module is so I can start looking for one or if anyone has a spare one can they please PM me..

I believe this suitcase repeater is configured as a two channel base station not a repeater, I would like to get this up and running as a single channel repeater for now.

It appears to have the amplifier and duplexer but the power amplifier is not connected at all the receiver Coaxial cable has been cut from the MX 300 body

TX Coaxial cable is connected from the TX MX 300 body straight to the TX input on the duplexer ..

And the other odd thing about this unit the model number is P44SXS3180B it has no "T" at the end of the model number what I have read on the board the "T" refers too repeater option
and another interesting thing is it has a sticker next to label with "SH173 " I believe that this may be a option for external PTT/Foot Switch and headset operation
as the unit has this facility and it is definitely not a factory option for this unit can anyone confirm or deny this option?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

I dug my MX300 book out, and I'm afraid we'll need more info..:-) There does not appear to be a "U50" in any of the portable radio setups - the modules in the xtal-controlled radios that are next to the Encryption board are all the xtal elements, including the offset oscillator for the TX "shift. All of those modules have "CExxx" numbers, however.
But maybe this is a board unique to the repeater - I don't have any books on the repeater.

That model number sounds more like a synthesized model, though perhaps someone changed out the parts inside. All of the xtal-controlled radios have 44AAU model numbers, while the synthesized models are 44SSU numbers..

Thanks for the reply, I apologise I did not make myself totally clear on which control board I was talking about
I was referring to the control board for the repeater (Not the MX300 transceiver controller board that contains the crystals)
I am referring to the large controller board that sits in between the MX 300'S

Thanks
