Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
5.0 as of Dec 16th according to our log.
Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Actually 5.1 is available on MOL...there were some potential installation issues with 5.0, I think.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
If i bump the 6500's firmware to the latest, does that mean I have to use 5.2 CPS as well?
Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Yes...in fact, since you use the CPS program itself to do the firmware update, an earlier CPS version will not even recognize the newer firmware package. You need to update to the latest CPS, then install the latest firmware package, then upgrade the radio.videonerd wrote:If i bump the 6500's firmware to the latest, does that mean I have to use 5.2 CPS as well?
If you install a later firmware package & try to use older CPS, when you try & do the radio upgrade, it will tell you it cannot find the firmware to do the update.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Do the later firmware and CPS packages for the TRBOs have any substantial advantages over the earlier versions? If so, what are they?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Lots of benefits, depending on how old your current firmware is. Mainly feature additions such as IP Site Connect & Capacity Plus trunking, but also the codeplug was 'opened up' in later versions so you can take full advantage of the radio memory & have hundreds of channels, hundreds of call list members, etc up to the memory limits. Also AGC options, transmit interrupt, differing levels of 'busy channel lockout', 40-bit encryption...lots of bells & whistles.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
I'm trying to update our portables to the latest and greatest Firmware (R01.06.20) but when the radio gets into the bootloader screen the computer loses it and I get an error saying:
Then Windows "Found New Hardware" window pops up.
Any ideas? Is there a new device driver or something?
Thanks (in advance) for the help.
Code: Select all
Error #2918
Unable to update device. Please reset device, reconnect it, and try again.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Install the drivers, turn the radio off and disconnect it from the pc, exit trbo cps, then open cps reconnect radio to the same usb port and try it again, it should work.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Tried that... Do I need to incrementally upgrade from R01.05.00 to R01.06.20 (upgrade each step or an intermediate step)?
Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Has the same issue, did exactly what Batwings21 said... works for me....

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Are these different drivers? I don't see anything on MOL saying drivers...
Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
When you install the CPS, it installs the drivers required for "normal" radio programming. However, for firmware updating, there is another driver required called a "flashzap" driver. When you initially do a firmware upgrade on a computer that hasn't done them before, or on a different USB port than before, you can start the firmware upgrade process, but you should then be prompted to install the flashzap drivers, via the usual "adding hardware" window that pops up whenever you plug an unfamiliar device into a computer USB port. Of course, while this is going on, the firmware update will fail, but once you've allowed the driver install process to complete, the next time you try it you won't be prompted to install the flashzap driver again & everything should work.
To marcosorourke...when the Windows "Found New Hardware" window pops up, do you allow it to finish the driver installation? If so & it keeps coming up on the same USB port everytime you try to upgrade, there is something wrong on the Windows side of things, not completing the driver install. Does your profile have admin rights? If not, that may be the issue.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
I ended up calling Customer Service...
He had me move to another USB port, and when the "Found New Hardware Wizard" came up, had me browse to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola\MOTOTRBO Drivers\fudaly.sys.
In case anyone else runs into this problem, here's what they told me.

You shouldn't need to point it anywhere, select the option for install automatically.

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
It couldn't find it automatically.
Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
Good info, thanks for sharing. escomm is correct that it should work with the "let Windows find the software automagically" selection, but it doesn't always as you've seen.marcosorourke wrote:I ended up calling Customer Service...

Re: MotoTRBO CPS Version
The Mototrbo software is the most buggy for uninstall and install. If you don't do it exactly right when upgrading your software and you don't allow it to use the default directories and it fails, its REGEDIT time. Why it can't recognize, uninstall an older version, then install a newer version all on its own, is beyond me.
