Hey all.....not 100% sure if this is the right place for this question (mods, move if need be) .
Anyway, Im curious as to what would make my mts2k squeal as if someone were standing next to me while i key up. I was trying to talk on a local ham repeater, doing just fine, but if i turn the volume up 100% i hear said screeching unless i have a spaeker mic attached...... ideas anyone?

Re: mts2000 squeal
You need a Jedi Microphonics Kit part number REX4465A, search the board for more information

This is on RX only.....not TX. For instance, i key the mic on my local repeater and if the volume is over half way up, my radio squeals like i am standing right next to someone who is transmitting.

Addendum: this is occurring on RX only (to be clear)....when someone else talks or the CW ID comes over...my tx audio is crystal clear.

Re: mts2000 squeal
You're misunderstanding the use of the term "microphonics" here.
What is happening is that the loud audio produced by the speaker is vibrating the boards inside their shields and producing the "squeal" you describe. When you externalize the speaker with a speaker mic, you remove the vibration source and the problem goes away. Analog Sabers and STXes were notorious for having this same exact problem.
The kit escomm just posted will fix it. I've never needed to do a Jedi radio, but in the Sabers and STXes it consists of metallic mesh foam cushioning that you place around and under a couple of shields to improve their grounding and keep them from vibrating.
