anyone got nay input for a 3 site multicast system
Our county is looking into a 3 site multicast system from motorola that consists of 3 quantars, a astro-tac comparator and ptp600 2.5ghz backhaul links for the tower links
they have given is a budgetary figure of around 260K for this setup and Thought?? seemed high to me
we currentyl have 3 repeaters in the county north, south and east, all with the same output frequqency and tone but with different input pl frequencies so the officer has to know which rptr he is close to and switch to the pl to key the rptr up we would like to do away with the officer changing channels
I belive what we want is multicast with VoteScan??

Re: 3 site multicast system
What number of receivers, towers, microwave links, who purchases the licenses and coordination for the fixed microwave links? Who does the install?
I don't think the numbers are off when you consider that one fixed microwave hop is about $50K. So there's $100K right there, leaving $150K for the rest of the system. And I'm sure that Motorola's Quantars are $5K - $20K, each.

PTP600's are cheaper than that. Almost overkill for a single ds0 payload. Latency / delay will be very noticeable to the users, but livable. I'd have to see the whole concept before I'll comment on the design. Without more details, it sounds like they will use a common input, three different outputs, and some method for the subscriber units to steer by rssi to the best site. You definitely do not want to attempt simulcast across ethernet without giant bulk delay and one heck of a buffer at each site.

Yeah it was one input frequency with the comparator doing the rcvr voting , and then conventional voted scan on the output side which is a option in the xts series so it will vote the strongest rx signal on the mobile or portable
list on the ptp600 was 4k per side so that would be around 20K rounded off for the 2 links 16K plus misc stuff
then i figured 3 quantars @ 20K EA for 60K
comparator at 15Kea for 15K
so that was 95K was jstu trying to figure out what the rest would be, we have requested a firm offer form motorola so they will provide a breakdown of costs instead of jsut a round figure
the proposal didn't include any subscriber units jsut the infastructure jsut seemed high to me

You haven't gotten to the bafo yet. Will there be site upgrades like new line, antenna, and R56 grounding? Is there a drive test requirement in the rfp?

existing antennas, and line are going to be used as well as building were isntalled 3 years ago to R56 and no dirve test

Re: 3 site multicast system
The reason you're paying so much for it is because of the SERVICES, not the hardware. If Motorola is going to come in and install everything and configure it, you're probably paying more for that than the hardware itself. Look at the quote.

Yeah we are waiting on the actual quote so far all we have is budgetary no actual line item quote they said that would take 3 to 4 weeks,
