Ok Gents some one please help. I was progaming my astro saber with cps R02.05.01 and used a bad cable and now it is displaying FAIL 01/92.
First of all did I brick it or can it be revived ?
Second I have an old version of dos astro lab can I just dump a code plug into it and fix it that way?
Third if it can be fixed with lab could somebody send me a code plug ?
The radio was a mod H04KDH9pW7AN , 1Meg , IMBE/APCO.
Thanks Chris
How bad did I brick it?

Re: How bad did I brick it?
Try hitting write as it's booting up. Might take a LOT of tries, but eventually it should go. Power on, > write. Over and over.
Dont mess with LAB unless you know what you are doing. But your situation isn't as grave as it seems.

Re: How bad did I brick it?
FL 01/92 referrs to an error in the internal part of the codeplug (as opposed to the external part of the codeplug, which would be FL 01/82). CPS will seldom fix a codeplug with this error.
If you made a backup SRecord from the radio in question, presuming it was made before the error occured, writing it back into the radio should restore the radio to operation.
If you choose to use a SRecord from another radio, keep in mind that the serial number and tuning values that are in your radio currently will be overwritten with those from the donor SRecord. You will at a minimum need to retune the radio.
Are you sure you meant CPS R02.05.01? That's truly ancient. Did you mean R05.02.01?

Yes I do have a back up record that I have been trying to use but I keep getting a communication fail. And unfortunately it is r02.05.01 cps.
I hate to admit but I switched over to the dark side many moons ago and for the past few years have been almost exclusively using Kenwood radios with the exception of my beloved astro saber III.
Thanks Chris

Not sure if this will help, but I did get a FAIL 01/92 on my spectra once.vhfr1289 wrote:Ok Gents some one please help. I was progaming my astro saber with cps R02.05.01 and used a bad cable and now it is displaying FAIL 01/92.

It seems that Fail 01/82 deals with the MLM Codeplug. Fail 01/92 seems to deal with the microprocessors EEPROM error.
I know this was on a spectra, but after entering service mode and successfully exiting service mode, it brought it back to life.
I am not sure if this will work though, as you said you may have communication problems with the radio as well?
Radios I own: Spectra VHF 110W with A7 head, HT1000 VHF, ICOM IC-F30 VHF, and a Puxing PX-888 VHF.
Scanner I own: Radioshack Pro-164
If you want to get around the 16 mode scan limit on the Motorola Spectra, then read this guide and go to the original thread Here!

Re: How bad did I brick it?
Update:
Ok gents after a week from hell (bricked radio, crashed programming computer, repeater at work crashed, wrecked jeep) things are finally turning around, got lab up and running on an old spare and was able to unbrick it and I can program with lab but now my version of cps doesn’t like the flash code I can read it but it won’t let me write.
And here’s the even stranger thing if I enter service mode the flash code reads 000001-004900-2 and in cps when I read it cps reads 000001-000000-9 is the flash code stored in more than one place on the radio?

Hightower wrote:Exactly, that internal part of the codeplug contains the tuning partition. One thing you may try is read the radio with Astro Tuner. If the radio reads in tuner, go through each tuning menu page and make one simple change, write the radio after each change, then change it back to its original value. if your lucky, tuner will correct the checksum (as long as tuner will read the radio)akardam wrote:FL 01/92 referrs to an error in the internal part of the codeplug (as opposed to the external part of the codeplug, which would be FL 01/82). Thanks for this tip, it saved my bacon
