Any problem if an MDC emergency packet is not acknowledged?

Post by adlertom »

I'm curious to know if there are any bad ramifications to an MDC emergency packet going unacknowledged, other than the initiating radio repeating the packet transmission until the programmed number of polites/impolites was reached.

For example, if the console or radio that is supposed to send the emergency acknowledge data burst were to fail, would the originating radio be left in an unknown state?

I've experimented with this a little, and the originating radio seems to behave the same whether or not it gets an acknowledge to it's emergency.

Radio won't come out of emergency until acked, don't know what specifically will happen , but the radio may not change channels and modes, go in or out of scan, keypad functions may or not work, and may or not receive or transmit depending on the model of radio. I know my Spectra won't scan, keypad won't work, there may be other nuances but I never looked into it too much.
