Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Trying to program XTL 5000 with Motorola cable , this is a 50 watt radio. I can not get radio to read, get following message.
Failed to Acknowledge Error: Context 24, Status c0000386 or 80004005. Tried 3 different computers , 2 with USB and 1 with serial connector. I have used this cable 6 or 8 tmes only with other exact same radios , no problems. Could this be a radio issue?
Thanks.

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Having fallen victim myself to this several times because I program so many different radios, have you set the software to the port your using? By this I mean
if your using a USB cable, did you set the software to USB and not leave it set to one of the com ports for serial interface use?

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Is it remote or dashmount, what head, what cable (part #) are you using?

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
I guess your not very interested in getting back with any replies.
The more I think about this, I have to also ask which control head are you using? The XTL has gone through a
couple of growing up versions and has used the "W" series heads as well as the "M" and "0" series heads. Both
the M and the O are basically the same except for the color around the display and the display itself.
If your using the "W" series heads, there is a programming cable to fit the mic connector. Or you could use the
rear accessory connector and go directly to a serial port on your computer. If you have the M or O series head,
then there is a USB cable that goes to the round mic connector.
Don't forget that there is also a HHCH mic that goes with these radios. That is a whole nother story.

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Using the W series, done at least 10 to 12 of these identical radios. Tried both USB and Com1 on software. As stated, tried on 3 different computer, same results on all.
Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Using the Motorola cable with a serial cable adapter, exactly as Motorola suggested. Cable pligs into mic connector on front. Cable as only been used 12 or 15 times, do not think it is bad, never know with quallity if product Motorola is selling today.

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Also try a computer with a real serial port if you haven't. USB to Serial adapters are not reliable in some cases. I only use Edgeport USB to Serial adapters and haven't had any issues with those. Other people have tried others and had hit or miss success.

Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Have tried on serial port of another computer. Using USB to serial cable converter. It is a dash mount radio.
Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
Ok so you are using a serial cable to the control head. What is the part # on it? Also this is a dashmount W series XTL5k. What is the model #? What version CPS are you using and what OS in on the computer?
Re: Motorola XTL 5000 Programming Issue
1.) Radio is dash mount, 50 watt.
2.) W head
3.) Programming cable is Motorola , do not know model #, DB 9 on one end , rectanglulat mic connector on other.
4.) Have used 2 different USB to serial adapter cables.
5.) Radio is same model as other 10 or so I programmed.
6.) Tried on 3 computers, 2 with USB ports and one with serial port.
7.) Same erroe message on all 3 computers.
Also, called Motorola tech line, not much help at all.
