Motorola SM50 with bad codeplug

Post by oh2lak »

I purchased some time ago a SM50 VHF low-split transceiver to use with APRS but haven't been successfull yet to get it working. Apparently the codeplug currently in the radio is corrupt, and I get Error 53 after reading the radio (reads all 32 blocks of the codeplug but then shows the error).

Could someone help creating a codeplug for this this particular radio? It is a 136-156MHz split, model M33DGC20A1AA with serial number 682TXN2667.

Your help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Erik

Same problem here. It gets to block 32 and then Error 58. Need one for a M33DGC20A2AA. Previous owner took it out of the split. Tried hex editing the MDF file, but cannot get the Checksum, after about four hours of trying. My fingers are numb from trying.

Still looking for a codeplug for a SM50 M33DGC20A2AA. I was wrong in my earlier post about it being taken out of the split. It helps to have a frequency counter that is actually working properly!

Regardless, I went ahead with hex editing and was finally able to successfully get the checksum in synch. Still no luck, still getting Error 58. So it looks like the only option is a replacement codeplug.

Any other ideas?

Hello:
Anyone recall the Brett Woolum code plug site ?
Sounds like these two fellows could use his down load site.
Webb address to his site ??????

Are you thinking of Codeplug Supersite?

I have already posted a request there.

Hello warpedspeed:
The super codeplug site doesnt look ther same as the one i remember a few years back- might be it though.
I do have an option if your up to some experimenting .
Years back i used to dump a 45 watt code plug into a 25 watt maxtrac if i didnt have the exact code plug by reading the corupt radio and retrieving its code plugs mdf file and do the same with the 45 watt good radio and swapped mdf files so the radio would accept the new code plug.
But because the radio now would have the higher values for 45 watt id go into the rss program and lower the power output back down to 25 watts to save the actual 25 watt pa from being over driven and eventualy ruining it.
If you want to try it on your m33dgc20a2aa i can swap the reading you get around for you with a m43dgc20a2aa .
Just let me know if you want to try it.

I sounds like it is worth a try.
Of course, I am not actually getting an updated MDF, since it fails on reading the last block.

I suspect that it if works, it would just be a matter of changing the power setting, and the serial number.

Thanks
