Spectra programming help

Post by Andy2712 »

I just got a spectra that I'm trying to program and I keep getting an error that says: "serial bus failure: busy line locked" can anyone offer any help or assistance? I've tried three different computers and checked all of my connectinos and nothing has helped. Thanks.

Can you successfully read and write to other Spectras with your lashup? Does the radio display PROGRAMMING as you attempt to read it?

This is the only spectra I have so I can't tell whether or not it will program others. The radio does not display "program" when I attempt to program it.

Okay. Then tell us about your setup. Are you using DOS RSS or Windows CPS? Is this a Spectra, or an Astro Spectra? Are you using a real Moto RIB and cable, or an aftermarket?

Its the DOS RSS ver 6.05, I'm using an aftermarket cable and RIB box and I've tried a genuine Motorola RIB, and its a spectra. Thanks for your help.

Low or high power spectra? Also check the COM port for some reason mine defaults to COM2 instead of COM1. I have an OEM low power cable if you want to try that.

Andy,
"serial bus failure: busy line locked" usually means there are problems in the Spectra radio. Can you change MODEs and do all the keys work on the control head?

I f you still have problems I may be able to fix it for you.

No I can't change modes and none of the buttons seem to do anything.

+1

But, I did want to make sure his lashup was working before proceeding.

If this is your only Spectra, then you probably don't have boards to substitute. If Will can't help, let us know. Somebody is bound to have spare parts.

Correct, if Andy does not have another control head, it will be difficult to trouble shoot by the BatBoard.

Andy's problem is common to the Spectras. I have seen this Busy Line Locked too many times over the years that Spectras have been 'on the streets'. Since 1988!

I will be glad to check Andy's Spectra here at no charge.

It's been a long time since I messed with a spectra but I used to get an error when the external encryption box was not present or failing. Could it be he's purchased a radio that is looking for the external box? I can't remember the exact error I used to get but it did mention the serial bus.

This was his first post. I thought this might have been the error I used to get when the external encryption box was not connected or not working? I would get this error on the computer not on the radio. I either read or figured out that the box was part of the serial bus and was causing the error when programming. Forgot to say that the radios that had this wrror did work fine. Only problem was we could't change the programming.
