UHF astro spectra

I made the cable for the astro spectra mobile. According to the model # it is a 110 watt uhf 438-482. I have a copy of the cps 12 software but when it loads it says unable to open file missing or corrupt. That is even before I get a chance to read the radio. My question is cps 12 is the correct software??? If so .. what can I do to get it to load properly?? I am using windows xp sp3. Thx.

That could be one of the files the CPS has. Make sure all the files in the CPS directory are NOT read only.

BTW your radio is Range 3 (450-482 MHz), 20- 40 Watt, 128 Channels

Sounds like your trying to use Astro25 CPS not Astro CPS. The current version for Astro CPS is 5.xx.xx.

Ok the software part sounds ok. I have version R06.00.05 which I believe to be an updated version of the R05.03.00??? Also which cable do I need? Lo or High power? I have the high power cable and one I acquired from a now deceased friend that says spectra 900 low power. Either of these correct? or do I need something different?

Your version 6 sounds like DOS for the Spectra, totally different from Astro Spectra CPS.

If your radio is remote mount then the high power cable would work on the 2nd DB25 otherwise the low power cable fits in the 15 pin connector on the rear of the radio.

Not to be rude but from reading everything you are not very up on radio itself or programming, hardware and requirements. I would suggest contacting someone in your area and have a sit down in person and go over everything and make sure you have what is needed and learn how to do it properly before you smoke something.

I am simply unfamiliar with Astro and Asto spectra. Never did them at all. I have lots of experience with maxtracs, ht600's etc.... Just no astro or spectras. I did reach out to a few locals here but everyone is too busy and do not seem to want to be bothered. Thank You for trying.

Rethinking this, I have never seen a busy error with CPS. Are you using windows based CPS?

No, Mine is DOS based.

Your using SPECTRA RSS not ASTRO SPECTRA RSS or CPS then. Chances are the radio has been touched with CPS which makes RSS unusable. You have to get yourself Astro Spectra CPS, the newest version 5.03.00.

I need some assistance.......... I have a UHF Astro Spectra mid power with an A4 head. UsingCPS and need to hex edit to bring the radio down to 440mhz. When I use hex editor ver 6 I cannot seem to find the codes needed to change from a 450 on the low side to a 440. Any help is appreciated.

You should have no issues with HEX edit V6.

The 450mhz value is 8074D21A IIRC. And the 440mhz value is 00DE391A.

Follow the instructions and you should be good to go.

Got the right software now. I can read the radio now. I want to bring it down to the ham band. I tried 2 hex editing programs and cannot get it to go down to the ham band. It will not take program. Any ideas??

You're just not finding all the instances of your lower bandsplit. Keep in mind that the offset locations are NOT the same as documented on the Batlabs main page - you have to use the methodology to search around and find the bandsplit tables, then locate your target bandsplit and change it. That's assuming you're using Windows CPS. I don't see how you could hose up the DOS RSS hack since the bandplit limits are in plain text.

using windows cps. loading the .exe file and xvi32 hex workshop. I only see 2 digit codes not 3.

I have a mid power UHF unit that was programmed for 453-482 I hex edited the cps software and was able to program in the ham freqs from 440 -450. The band edge of 440 and some 441 and 446 freqs will not xmit and will get fail 01. I beleive I need to adjust the vco so that it will "lock" Is the procedure the same for a astro spectra as an regular spectra??? If so I need to get a conductive ink pen. I was hoping it was like the GM300 series and adjustable with an tuning can. Thank You in advance for your help.
