Has anyone heard of the Nabishi AES crypto option boards?

Post by borisf »

Hi everyone!

I recently stumbled upon that UK based company called Nabishi.
On their website they offer AES crypto boards that are supposed to fit into the Waris HTs (among many other radios).

Everything they claim sounds very nice - but I haven't been able to find any Info on the internet except said website. So what have we got here? Vaporware or a real product?

Regards,
Boris

Well, seeing as how none of the applicable radios listed have built-in digital voice capability I wonder what codec they're using on the voice signal before encrypting it. They have a voice sampling bitrate of 2.4kbps listed, but that doesn't tell you a whole lot. The audio sample sure sounds like a CVSD variant though.

There isn't a lot of information about them on their website, but I suspect they are use AES key numbers to randomly shift voice inversion bands as Transcrypt, Midian and other's do. It's all analogue, but the keying and randomization is AES. I may try and order a pair and see what they are. Delving into their website more, it appears that it may be true digital. I definitly will try and order a pair.

Did you already hear from them?
I saw they got a "starter kit" but wouldn't be surprised if it was sold to corporate customers only. ;-)

I have expirience with them. They are unstable on Waris (HT/CDM Series) due the issues with taking control via PROIS. There are no stable firmwares for Naboshi modules. Don't buy them for HT/CDM radios. But they works great on Vertex/Icom radios.

Fortunately at least according to Motofan, I have not tried to purchase the demo kit. Been too busy with other issues like narrow banding about 1000 radios. Probably won't need them anyway, looks like we are going NXDN. Not my choice but we are testing various makes and models of radios for the next big purchase, and the ICOM's are making the biggest splash with the bosses.

NEXEDGE is very good choice (we have test site on NXR-700; also NX-200, NX-700 with 2.02 firmwares), but incomparable by security level. NEXEDGE offers simple digital scrabmler with 32767 combinations. It is enough for protection against undesirable listeners, but no more that.

FWIW, I sent a request for information on there HF digital encryption a few months ago and they replied with some nice info via PDF including the instruction manual....they seemed willing to sell it to anyone with the cash.
