Motorola Speaker Mic
I have a Motorola xts3000 and I want to get one of the public safety microphones that has the antenna port and volume toggle switch on the top. Only problem is that I don't want to use the antenna on the mic, just on my radio. I know with the HT1000 you could cut off a pin and make it work this way. Can this be done with the XTS3000? Also, if this can be done, will the volume toggle still work? Thanks Everyone!

Re: Motorola Speaker Mic
The XTS uses a special RF adaptor between the radio & antenna. It screws into the radio, & the antenna screws into the adaptor. I imagine if you use the same Jedi ps mike with the actuator pin cut off, & didn't use the rf adaptor for the 3000, you would get the results you are looking for. The mike pins are the same. Thanks for that info! Can you tell me which pin it is? Also, will that mess with the volume toggle switch or is that a different pin?

Re: Motorola Speaker Mic
It's the fat pin above all the little pins on the connector that pushes the plastic actuator on the Jedi radio. It doesn't do anything electrically, it just pushes a plastic disc which actuates an RF switch which then sends RF to the antenna on the mike. 7 years ago, when I first got a 3000, I tried to use that exact same mike, but the pin prevented the mike from fitting flush against the radio because it used the RF adaptor instead, so I ended up getting a commander mike instead which wasn't a PS mike, but instead had a ch knob & volume control. Maybe that mike would better fit your needs. GARY N4KVE

Thanks again for all of your help. I just bought a nmn6250 psm from ebay. I am now seeing that I may need an RF adapter NTN8327B to make it work properly. If I just want to use the mic and keep the antenna on the radio, do I still need this adapter? Here is the link to the ebay auction. Thanks again for all the help!

Re: Motorola Speaker Mic
The only, repeat ONLY, thing you need is a standard speaker/microphone. That way you won't need the adapter or the special wrench required to tighten and loosen the adapter. I don't understand why you would need the public safety mic with the antenna connector when you don't intend to use it.

I just like the design better. Will I be able to use it with the antenna on the radio, or will it not work without the adapter and wrench?

Re: Motorola Speaker Mic
A commander mike would have suited your needs better. No antenna, a channel knob to change freq's, & a volume up/down button for complete volume control, not just a volume hi/low switch. Plenty of them around. GARY N4KVE

YES, Just disable the RF switch plunger actuator on the speaker microphone's plug.
And some people like the older square design like the Saber days s/m's.
