Maintaining FPP on an XTS2500 when programming with CPS?

Post by mab »

Hi,

Please forgive what is doubtlessly a laughably basic question, but I've read and searched everything I can find online and can't figure out the answer. Please be gentle with me, I'm new at this.

I have an XTS2500 with FPP enabled, and, I was told, that is equipped with both the H52 and H53 options. But neither the H52 nor the H53 bit is set in the flash code that gets displayed when I put the radio in service mode (it's 000000-0C000A-6). The radio is running fairly old firmware -- 4.50.00.

I want to change a few things that require the CPS, but I want to make sure not to delete the FPP feature while I do it. I have the latest (legally acquired, thank you) CPS, just downloaded from MOL, (but no XTS cable for this radio until next week, so this is an academic question until the cable arrives).

I recall reading that under some circumstances, particularly if you have only one of option H52 and H53, programming an XTS radio with the latest CPS can disable FPP. But my radio doesn't appear to have either, and yet FPP definitely works.

Any advice?

Thanks

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

If you don't have Q52 AND Q53 present in the FC, than using anything higher than Astro 25 CPS V9 WILL disable FPP in your radio.

Decoding Flashcode: 000000-0C000A-6
Platform: XTS2500

Q352: User Definable Soft ID
Q446: Fireground Voice/Channel Announcement
Q574: 9600 Baud Trunking

Decoded by the akardam.net FC Decoder v4

And FPP works?? Mmmmm...... hack job?
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Thanks for the responses.

I assume the radio was clumsily hacked somewhere along the line -- it definitely has FPP, as well as other features not included in the flashcode (e.g., it definitely has P25, and that bit isn't set, either).

Is there any way to safely program this radio in a way that will not disable FPP? Can I get an older CPS from MOL with my CPS subscription? Or somehow reset the flashcode?

Thanks again

How can you have 9600 baud trunking without digital voice?

OK, this is just getting weirder and weirder.

I was able to read the configuration with ASTRO25 CPS R14 -- and it reads a completely different flashcode from the one I get by putting the radio in service mode. The CPS thinks the flashcode is 0A1008-102710-4, and allows me to program the radio accordingly.

The good news is that this flashcode includes Q52 and Q53. Yay.

But the bad news is that the flashcode DOESN'T include digital voice. CPS therefore won't let me program any of the channel personalities to have digital or mixed TX or RX, which is something I definitely need (and that the radio definitely does have, on the channels that I can currently program with FPP).

Any obvious way to hack around this and preserve digital on this radio? I guess I could pay for a flashcode upgrade, but that seems silly given that I clearly already do have that feature.

I'm flummoxed here, and would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks everyone.
