XTL-5000 no rx pl?
I have about 15 or so XTL-5000 (with Astro Spectra heads) in VHF, UHF, and 700/800 that are all RX CSQ on conventional freqs. There is no setting that I could find to allow me to enable a RX PL tone (no setting on the excel like sheet where you enter your conventional freq info). These units are interfaced to a large Telex IP-223 based system in a command truck, so hearing tons of squelch crash on a console is less than fun. Also, having a bunch of radio ping-pong when cross-patched is the most fun you can have with your radio on! The software available to program these was on the customer's computer, so it is probably 2-3 years old. All I could find in the HELP file was to diasble the VRS (which are all greyed out in this codeplug). Any idea where I might find the setting? FatBoy
......I understand what the package says sir, but you cannot talk 28 miles with 3 AA batteries.......

Is it squelching all the time, non-stop unless someone is talking?
Can you send me the codeplug?

TPG,
I do not have it handy. I no longer have a current sub for the latest version of the Astro Mobile software. I will have to get the customer to email it to me and then forward it to you. The radios are not squelching all of the time, but there is a lot of rf in the comm vehicle and I think we are causing some of the issues ourselves (via all of the rf and patching). Not to mention, the system was specd and installed by hams, which makes troublshooting and repair FUN with no documentation and non-std setup practices. FatBoy

The codeplug is the key. It depends on how the receiver squelch was programmed. The other issue is the mic. If they
are running the radio without a mic connected, it could be the reason that the radio is in carrier squelch all the time. If
the radio is programmed to use the mic hangup to control the squelch and no mic is hung up, the radio will never go
tone squelch. There is a setting to not use the hangup of the mic to disable squelch and leave it in tone squelch
all the time. Again, you would have to look at how the radio is programmed.

We're on the same page. With my constant squelch question I was ruling out filter audio vs flat audio out of the accs connector. Clearly it's filtered. The truth lies within the codeplug...Jim202 wrote:
