Reband

Post by Zach489 »

We're over scheduled to Reband in my area and expecting any day now. I read my radios in MTS 2.02 CPS and they are all checked where it says "Reband Enabled". I also read my XTS3000 with the same results. However, I heard from someone that the checked field just means that it's a 512k board and will take the upgrade, not necessarily that it's already been upgraded. I was told that only version 8.73 Firmware will be ready for Rebanding. With that said, I already know two of my MTS's don't have new-enough firmware. My MCS 7.71. I can't tell what my XTS3k is because it's a model 1 and in the CPS next to "Firmware" says "Unknown". So as you can see, I'm getting forked in every direction with this thing. And being that this reband crap is so difficult to begin with, I'll make my questions nice and simple.

1) What's the earliest firmware in an MTS that will be reband capable?

2) Is my MCS reband capable with 7.71 Firmware?

3) Is their any other way to tell what firmware my 3k is? I looked in a saved codeplug, perhaps reading it and then viewing the read codeplug will work?

4) How much does a shop charge to do a firmware upgrade on each radio?

Here are some answers for ya,

1) R08.xx started rebanding firmware for the MTS

2) Yes

3) A saved codeplug does not store firmware versions.. Period.. You need to read the radio if it's a model 1

4) A shop should charge around $75-ish give or take for a firmware refresh

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Marc,

thanks for the quick answers. So just to clarify, anything earlier than R8.00 in an MTS will not support rebanding? I just read my 3k. It's 7.00.02.

Moto started the MTS rebanding firmware at R08.7x.. The firmware versions seemed to jump from R06.8x to R08.7x with nothing in between.. Hope that narrows it down for you..

Sorry to bring back a done subject, but would R07.00.02 in the 3k support rebanding? I'm using version 5.02.00 CPS.

thanks again for the help.

You'll need Host R07.70 or higher in that 3K for rebanding, or R06.70 or higher for 9600 systems..

xx.70.00 is the minimum version needed to support rebanding on the Astro line.
