Saber II pre/post MDC
Does anyone know if there is any way to make the saber II radios do MDC ID post-transmission, rather than pre? (like one of the saber I's that I have...)
I prefer Pre-ID myself, but the people using these radios (apartment complex) don't like having to wait until the tone is done... (sigh)
I told them I would look into it.

No, the old Sabers only do pre.

It actually depends on the CORE of the radio, whether it will have the ability to do either pre or post MDC.
All 5D cores will allow the selection of either ID type, previous versions were hit/miss on the selection.

every 5D or highern I have ever owned had the option of Pre,Post or Both. It may have something to do with the RSS version. I have always used 7.0.01

I have RSS 7.0.01, and the only radios that have ever asked pre, post, or both were saber I's. I've never had a saber II or III ask me. It's always been pre.
All sabers that we have are CORE 5D's.

I know that all of my VHF Saber I,II IIE, IIR and III I have ever used for my FD were post PTT. These were my personal radios that I programmed. My Dept requires MDC1200 and had to be dekey. I have only ever had 5D or 6D radios.

Re: Saber II pre/post MDC
We figured it out (by accident)
If the radio is programmed as a secure radio, it won't allow post MDC. We created a new codeplug for one, and forgot to set it as "secure" (we only have the bypass modules). When we went to set MDC, it asked us if we wanted pre or post.
Mystery solved. If you want post MDC and you aren't using encryption, program the radio as a clear radio.

OK that clears that up. I assumed you had clear radios. Secure radios wont let you do dekey MDC. I have never had a use for secure so I have always programmed mine as a clear radio.
Re: Saber II pre/post MDC
And I always had a use for secure so that explains my answer. Even with old radios you learn new stuff

Re: Saber II pre/post MDC
Post MDC while in secure, will interfere with the sync handshake of the secure signal to indicate end of transmission,
that is the reason it can not be selected.
