GM300 Pre-PTT Tone problem
I'm having a weird problem with my GM300. On 1 repeater channel, I have it set up to send the MDC ID pre, the rest of the channels are post-id. For some reason, the tone that is being generated by the radio (the long boop-beep) is being transmitted over the air. I've tried switching out the mic, the small compact mics don't do it, but I have since tried 2 standard mics, and I recently traded a DTMF mic with another member here on the board, and it does the same thing. I know that the GM300 last tone is usually heard after the MDC id done transmitting, but the entire tone is going out loudly regardless of radio volume level. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is this a problem with the larger mics or the radio itself? Any input appreciated!

Re: GM300 Pre-PTT Tone problem
I believe it's a problem with the radio itself. I've heard this problem with the GP300 before which is essentially the portable counter-part of the GM300. If you can just disable the long sidetone and use the short one only you will probably only hear the last little tail of the short beep when TXing.

As the previous poster said- I too had a brand new GP300 which did exactly the same thing, it was the only radio I had that ever did that. The sidetone could always be heard on receiving radios.

I think I figured out, seems to be a microphonic issue. When the radio is receiving, you can tap on the front and hear the "echo". I tapped it a few more times and it stopped, and the problem seems to be resolved. It's an intermittent problem, I'm going to take the front faceplate off and give it a look over to see if anything is loose. Thanks everyone for the input.

Ah.... sounds like the ever popular "feedthru connector" problem.
Do a search, I've posted about it way too many times to go into it again.
