Selecting the Algo on a xts3000 and 5000

Post by spectracle »

I have a Astro Spectra with the NTN 1562 (DES-OFB) and I have a xts3000 with the V67 encryption board (DES-XL and DES-OFB) and a xts5000 with the NTN4596 module ( ADP AES-256 DES DES-XL DES-OFB). Although the boards are not currently keyloaded how do you select the algorithm on the radio?. I want to program the 3 units to DES-OFB and load some AES and other keys into the 5000. I have looked through the software but see no way to select the encryption type (des/aes) etc.

I am in sothern ont and am looking for someone with a keyloader to program up the modules.

You load a specific key into a certain slot. Any type of key can go into any slot.

If you stick an AES key in slot 11, then select slot 11 from the front panel, you get AES key 11.

DES-OFB/XL is the only time this doesnt hold true. A given personality is set for -XL mode through CPS (XL Encryption check box) otherwise it will default to -OFB.

Ok i think i get it. to select the type of algorithm desired you load the key for that algorithm eg ADP in slot 1 and DES-OFB in slot 2 the you select that key for use on the channel (key 2) the radio will transmit DES-OFB on that channel if I was to select key 1 then the radio would transmit ADP. With the 3000 by checking the XL box the radio will transmit in XL and not OFB.

That's right - except that for the example you have, realize that you can't mix DSP-based ADP with hardware-based DES/AES. You have to configure the radio to use either hardware crypto or DSP/software-based crypto, and can't switch from one to the other without the CPS.

Thanks for the info. All I need to do now is either get a keyloader or find someone locally who has one. The DES-OFB mode is what I really want to get going the other modes are just something to playwith to get a better understanding of encryption.
